This small town used to produce charcoal, but it was later developed as a small port by the British during the Straits Settlement period. Port Dickson was also known as Tanjung. In the Malay language, that means “cape”. The oldest shop houses were the four situated presently at Jalan Lama. There was also a carbon mine at the first mile of the coast road (Jalan Pantai), and therefore Port Dickson was also called “Arang” (charcoal) in the Malay language.
The Avillion Village Resort could be added to the must see places in PD, even if its just for a short look-see visit. As PD’s only resort build almost entirely on stilts, the ambience and view from its reception area to its resort is quite interesting. Avillion Village Resort: Another resort on stilts is currently under construction in PD but I doubt it will be as interesting as Avillion Village Resort. The beautiful West Coast resort town of Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan has now been further graced by a unique and magnificent attraction on Ostrich Show Farm. Located only 1.5 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur, our Show Farm is located on the 9th mile of the Port Dickson coastal road. The mini zoo is run by the Tiara Beach Resort… It has a limited collection of ostriches, pheasants, camels, crocodiles, donkeys, horses and snakes – to name a few… Visitors can take rides on donkey carts and donkeys as well… There are also special snake performances on Sundays and Public Holidays.
